I believe that in our world today, the culture pulls us into its darkness and out of the light of Christ. We are like sheep who have gone astray. We no longer follow our Shepherd, but we go after what we believe will satisfy us. We focus our eyes not on Jesus, but anything that the world offers. Things like television, computers, magazines, ipods, iphones, cell phones, texting friends, emailing, unprofitable books and news articles, all of these and more distract us each and every day from God and His Word.
Looking around me, I sometimes see no difference between the unbeliever and the "professing" Christian. They are both consumed with self, money, friends, and pleasing man rather than pleasing God, and they act as unwise men instead of wise. Proverbs 3:7 says "Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil."
Do not be learned in your own mental qualities or opinions; stand in awe of the existing One and depart from wicked deeds and thoughts. Focus on Christ. Keep your eyes on Christ. Don't be drawn into the lustful desires of the flesh.
Don't compromise. Stand firm. Do what's right.

Past It All
A gentle wind, a whistle is heard
As I approach the mountain, my heart is stirred.
Past the evergreens, oak, and pine
Past the crystal streams whose waters shine
Past the bluebirds that sit atop
The branches that appear they could almost drop
Down to the dirt ground laden with leaves
Down to the paths that bend and weave
Past the animals that scurry to shelters
Past the clouds and the sun that swelters
Past the moon and the stars that live
Far above me and always give
The shining lights that sparkle at night
Warming the evening in sheer delight
Past it all I came to ponder
Of creation beyond the wild blue yonder
My eyes scanned the heavens that stretch so high
And I couldn’t help think of life past the sky
A place known as heaven, the home of my Father
Where people live happily forever and ever
No beauty on earth could ever compare
To the beauty above that is rich and is fair.

Matthew 22:37
This verse has always been a favourite of mine and a wonderful reminder of how much we should love our heavenly Father. Our love for Him will never compare to His love for us. He paid the price for our sins with His death on the cross and we have been set free!

Most Christians would say they are not ashamed of Christ, but what about God's Word? We are more than willing to tell others that we are Christians, but we never go one step further as to take them to God's Word and live by His Word. We think that the Bible is the "religous book" that we open once a week on a Sunday morning at church. We read a couple verses that might impact us for the moment, but after a few hours, the impact is gone and you've forgotten what you read. I urge you to take God's Word seriously, read it every day and meditate on it, don't just scan the pages. We waste our time on things like facebook and texting friends. Take your facebook time and replace it with putting your face in the Book, the Bible. Take your texting time and replace it with reading the Text, the Bible. Instead of watching videos on Youtube, watch sermons on Youtube or something that is going to be spiritually beneficial to your relationship with Christ.
What are you willing to give up?

Christ reigns even now on His heavenly throne, yet the earth is filled with evil men. The adopted brothers and sisters of Christ reign even now by His side, yet their lives are of suffering. How can this be? It is the mystery of the cross of Christ Jesus! Through our weakness, we are strong. Through death, we have life. Through suffering, we are become the victors. And through persecution, we are blessed. Therefore, Christ tells us, rejoice in such troubles till the heavenly consummation, for great will be our apparent reward in that day. The Focus of our Prayer Life
"The focus of our prayer life should not be "God, this is what I want" but "God, what do You want of me?" In our goal to become like Christ, we should pray the way He prayed. In His moment of greatest trial, Jesus pleaded, "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will" (Matthew 26:39). We don't often hear prayers that reflect this kind of submission and obedience, but we are called to follow Christ's example."
